First of all, you are correct. Only 4 presidents have gotten 60% or more of the vote: Johnson over Goldwater, Roosevelt over Landon, Nixon over McGovern and Harding over Cox. A few more came close. (George Washington ran unopposed, so, he got all the votes, but that doesn’t seem to count for this). Most races have been close; indeed, 18 presidents got elected with less than 50% of the vote.
