Important aspects of civic virtue were: civic conversation (listening to others, trying to reach an agreement, keeping yourself informed so you can have a relevant contribution), civilized behavior (decent clothing, accent, containing feelings and needs), work (people had to make a useful contribution to the society).
Crusaders had to buy their own foods and were introduced to new items that they would bring back with them to Europe. These foods included sherbet, sugar, coffee, fruits, and rice. The introduction of new food items helped increase trade with the East.
