Find the relative extrema of the function, if they exist. Also, state the intervals where the function is increasing or decreasi
oksian1 [2.3K]

Answer:

The question is not complete. I will explain relative extrema and how to calculate it.

Step-by-step explanation:

The singular of extrema is extremum and it is simply used to describe a value that is a minimum or a maximum of all function values.

A function will have relative extrema (relative maximum or relative minimum) at points in which it changes from decreasing to increasing, or vice versa.

So if f(y) is a function of y

  • Function f(d) will be is a relative maximum of f(y),

if there exists an interval (a, b) containing d

such that for all y in (a, b) , f(y) ≤ f(d)

  • Function f(d) will also be a relative minimum of f(y),

if there exists an interval (a, b) containing d

such that for all y in (a, b) , f(y) ≥ f(d)

<em>Kindly note that If f(d) is a relative extrema of f(y), then the relative extrema occurs at y = d.</em>

<em>For the local extrema of a critical point to be determined, the function must go from increasing, that means positive  </em>f^{'}<em>, to decreasing, that means negative </em>f^{'}<em>, or vice versa, around that point.</em>

<em> </em>f^{'} is determined by finding the first derivative of the function f(y). The relative extrema will therefore allows us to check for any sign changes of f′ around the function's critical points.

PLEASE HELP IM SO CONFUSED
levacccp [35]

Answer:

Your answer is 5 weeks!!

Step-by-step explanation:

How I got my answer; First I checked if 2 weeks would work by doing 2( the umber of weeks) *3( the number of inches it grows per week) which is 6, I then added 6 to 3 inches (which is the original height of the plant) and I got 9.

I did the same process with the 2nd plant;

2(the number of weeks) *2( the number of inches the plant grows per week) which is 4. I then added 4 and 8( the original height) and I got 12.

(THE EXPLANATION FOR HOW I GOT 5 WEEKS STARTS HERE)

So I continued to do this process with 2,3,4 and 5, and finally I got my answer at 5weeks.

5(the number of weeks) * 3(the rate the plant grows per week) which is 15inches. I then added 15 to the original height which is 3inches, 15 +3 is 18 inches so that is my answer for how tall the 1st plant would get in 5 weeks .

Now the 2nd plant;

5(the number of weeks) * 2(the rate the plant grows per week) which is 10inches. Now I'm going to add the original height (8) with the rate the 2nd plant would grow after 5 weeks (10), 10+8 is 18 so the plant would grow 18inches after 5 weeks which is the same height as the first plant.

Hope this makes sense :)
