The 8th Amendment of the Constitution deals with getting a fair punishment for the crime you have committed this protects you in a lot of ways for instance. If I got pulled over for speeding 10mph over the speed limit the 8th Amendment protects me from being granted an absurd fine or prison time. The 8th Amendment is in place for fair punishment.
