Deviance is viewed as unsuccessful "socialization" by Reckless and Dinitz's  containment theory. Personality factors have a strong link to deviance. Deviance is percieved as the recognized violation of cultural norms in any way. Aside from personality factors there are biological predispositions and cultural and social context.
