Refer to the Biochemistry in Focus section of your text for this chapter to answer this question. A mutation in Complex I decrea

ses the efficiency of the electron transport chain. However, not all components of the electron transport chain are affected by this mutation. Which component of the electron transport chain will remain unaffected by a mutation in Complex I

Answer:

Complex II

Explanation:

The electron transport chain refers to a group of electron transporters embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane that transfer electrons from electron donors to electron acceptors which undergo redox (reduction and oxidation) reactions. The energy released during the transfer of electrons is coupled to the transfer of protons (H+) from the mitochondrial matrix into the intermembrane space, generating an electrochemical gradient that is then used to synthesize ATP. Complex I and Complex II are membrane-bound complexes that act as mitochondrial redox carriers. Complex I is a proton pump that uses energy from the electron transfer chain to pump protons, while Complex II sends H+ onto Complex III in the form of the reduced ubiquinol. Complex I receives electrons from NADH and transfers them to ubiquinone, while Complex II directly receives the redox cofactor FADH2 that does not pass through Complex I.

Which receptors are involved with the proprioception sense?
vampirchik [111]

Answer:

A: stretch receptors in the muscles, tendons and ligaments

Explanation:

Proprioception (or kinesthesia) is defined as any postural, positional information transmitted to the central nervous system by stretch receptors in the muscles, tendons and ligaments, joints or skin. In other words, it is the awareness of the movements produced by our members.

These receptors are found within the somatic nervous system, responsible for the different sensory experiences received and interpreted by our body. The most basic function of receptors is to provide the central nervous system (CNS) with information about the internal conditions of organic structures and the external environment.

Match the following types of nervous systems with their descriptions. 1. central increases or speeds up a process 2. peripheral
miss Akunina [59]
The central nervous system is made up of mainly the brain and the spinal cord while the peripheral nervous system is divided into two types which are sensory and motor neurons. The somatic nervous system is associated with voluntary nerves while the autonomic nervous system is also known as involuntary nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system increases or speeds up a process while the parasympathetic nervous system decreases or slows down a process.
