I would say the answer could be chronological thinking or being aware of at least the general progression of human history say from primitive communism of say the Eskimos to feudalism to capitalism and socialism and also major cultural, scientific and technological changes such as in the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution and how one like the Renaissance laid the foundation for the other like the Industrial Revolution.
