2. What did the church promise to the Crusaders in order to motivate them to fight?

History

RUDIKE [14]3 years ago

Answer:

The Catholic Church asked people to help their fellow Christians, those who were still alive and under persecution by the Muslim forces in the Holy Land, an plenary indulgence if they went on the Crusade to extend mercy on their fellow Christians.

What most people do not understand is that an indulgence had nothing to do with forgiveness of sins. Indulgences have been part of the Christian Church since the very early centuries when people asked others who were about to be killed by the Romans for their prayers.

Since then the theology of indulgences has not changed at all, although due to the unfortunate misunderstanding of Martin Luther, indulgences have been maligned and misunderstood since that time.

An indulgence can ONLY be gained by someone who is in a state of grace - all their sins forgiven already. NO ONE in a state of sin can earn an indulgence - not possible. An indulgence is a prayer of the Church or the saints for the remission of temporal punishment due for already forgiven sin. Thus it would be time off in purgatory, no one in a state of sin could earn an indulgence nor “earn” heaven - such an idea is atrocious and heresy.

12. What factor "bound the American colonies to Britain in the mid-18th century?"
Greeley [361]

Answer:

C. Fear of France

Explanation:

In the 18th century, the French state had some influence over the American colonies, militarily and economically speaking, but they mainly depended on the British government. The French were trying to expand their influence throughout the colonies, their power stretching from the mouth of St Lawrence towards Canada and the Great Lakes. The French were also making claims regarding the Mississippi basin and this was a highly contended topic between the French and the British government.

The colonies feared French rule and preferred British institutions that offered much more economic freedom to individual business and did not interfere too much with individuals freedoms, such as freedom of speech.

Which of the following directly contributed to soil erosion on the Great Plains in the 1930s?
vovikov84 [41]
Drought caused by sparse rainfall, hot summers, and high winds predominantly led to the soil erosion in the Great Plains during the 1930's. Human factors such as over farming, and complete uprooting of plants left nothing to ground the sandy soil. This combined with the high winds caused large amounts of particulate to be picked up and blown away from the area leaving it barren.

sweet [91]

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Although there are no options attached, we can say the following.

During Reconstruction, the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments were ratified. The issue that these amendments addressed was the abolishment of slavery and voting rights were extended to all male citizens.

Particularly, the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution referred to the abolition of slavery in the US territory. The 14th Amendment referred to citizenship in the country, and the 15th Amendment granted the right to vote to American men. Not women, just men.

Without a doubt, the Reconstruction Amendments were very important to reuniting and "heal" the country after the American Civil War and rebuilding the Southern states.
