Name two events that develops the point of view in the novel "a white heron".
Sav [38]

Answer:

Explanation:

Sarah Orne Jewett's "A White Heron" is told for mostly from the point of view of the omniscient narrator. This narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of old Mrs. Tilley, Sylvia, and the ornithologist. When there is a shift to Mrs. Tilley, the reader gains more insight into her granddaughter:

"'Afraid of folks,' they said! I guess she won't be troubled no great 'em up to the old place!"

Here Mrs. Tilley provides an insight into the character of Sylvia. In another passage, she enhances this understanding of Sylvia's character as she provides more history on Sylvia with the mention of Sylvie's great talent for understanding nature's creatures and of the "hint of family sorrows."

When the point of view switches to the young man, the reader perceives Sylvia and her grandmother through his perspective, a point of view that enlightens the reader about this hunter and his self-serving attitudes:

...the shy little girl looked once or twice yesterday [as though] she had at least seen the white heron, and now she must really be made to tell. Here she comes now, paler than ever, and her worn old frock is torn and tattered....

His noting of her poverty convinces him that Sylvia will inform him where the heron is so that she can receive the money he has offered.

Despite some shifts in perspective, the narration of Jewett's story is told in a manner that is most sympathetic toward Sylvia, a sympathy that endears her to the reader, even when she considers helping the hunter.

Name two or three details to support each one. Television is reactive, requiring no skill or thinking. Television viewing takes
masya89 [10]
The statements:
Television is reactive, requiring no skill or thinking.

1) Even if you don't do anything, television will continue playing (unlike video games for example!
2) You don't need to necessarily understand the context of the information that's presented to you: you  can be informed about a war somewhere without having to understand the causes for it and the power dynamics in the war.

Television viewing takes away from study and <span> reading time.
1) On a given day, if you watch TV for an hour and you forget you wanted to study: it took away this hour from the time when you could have studied
2)Television provides an easy distraction, so it's easy to watch it, and harder to stop and to do unpleasant chores, such as studying for a hard test

2. B

3. A

4. A

5. B

Explanation:

#1, #2, and #5 are all fragments and not complete phrases, because they either don't have a certain subject or verb being used. If they were included in the original sentence, then they would be complete but in this case they are not.

What is the best answer for character arc?
Inessa [10]
With a multiple choice question like this, you can eliminate some answers right away. Just the phrase "character arc" tells you that this is something that refers to the character. Because the author of a story is not the same thing as the character in a story, you can eliminate answers C and D. Now, consider the word "arc." The word "arc" implies movement from point A to point B. It is not a straight line movement but a movement that implies a slow growth and change over time. Thus the phrase "character arc" refers to how a character grows and changes throughout the story, starting off one way and slowly becoming another way by the story's end. So, the correct answer here is B, "A character arc is how a character changes and grows over the course of a story.'
