Hi there!

x² = 196

Take square root both sides :-

\sqrt {x^{2}} = \sqrt {196}

While takin' square root remember to include the -ve in the solⁿ also.

x = ± \sqrt {196}

x = ± 14

Hence,
The required solⁿ are x = 14 and x = - 14

~ Hope it helps!

Hi there!

{x}^{2}  = 196
To find the solutions to this equation, we must take the square root of both sides of the equation.

When we do this we mustn't forget to include the negative solution to this equation. This is because we can only find a positive number (as an outcome) when we square a negative number.
(e.g. (-14)^2 = -14 × -14 = 196)

x =  \sqrt{196}  \:  \: or \:  \: x =  -  \sqrt{196}

Find the roots.
x = 14 \:  \: or \:  \: x =  - 14

~ Hope this helps you!

to solve the system of equations below, grace isolated the variable y in the first equation and then substituted into the second
Marizza181 [45]

Answer:

The resulting equation is

x^2/4+16x^2/9=1

Step-by-step explanation:

The given equations are:

3y=12x   eq(1)

x^2/4+y^2/9=1    eq(2)

We need to isolate variable y in equation 1

Divide both sides of the equation with 3

3y/3 = 12x/3

y = 4x

Now, substitute the value of y=4x in second equation

x^2/4+y^2/9=1

x^2/4 + (4x)^2/9 = 1

The resulting equation is

x^2/4+16x^2/9=1

The width of a rectangular swimming pool is 12 meters less than the length, and the perimeter is 72 meters. Find its dimensions
Elis [28]

Answer:

The dimensions are 24 and 12 meters.

Step-by-step explanation:

W + L + W + L = 72   perimeter

(L-12) + L + (L-12) + L = 72

4L - 24 = 72

4L = 72 + 24 = 96  ====>  L = 96%2F4 = 24.

Would appreciate some help with this question, I am struggling!
ValentinkaMS [17]
I think you would multiply 14m x 9m which is 126m and then you would multiply 2.4m and 3.8m which is 9.12m. Last you would subtract 9.12m from 126m which is 116.88m...I’m sry if this isn’t correct
