The most significant reforms under Selim III were focused on military expansion, such as improvements to training of officers and engineers, and upgrades to the Ottoman fleet. Other reforms gave attention to both education (the foundation of schools) and translation (efforts to translate and circulate western texts). Economic growth was also a consideration due to the increasing wealth of the empire.
