The most significant reforms under Selim III were focused on military expansion, such as improvements to training of officers and engineers, and upgrades to the Ottoman fleet. Other reforms gave attention to both education (the foundation of schools) and translation (efforts to translate and circulate western texts). Economic growth was also a consideration due to the increasing wealth of the empire.

Japan and much of Asia did not have oil. so japan required their oil to come from the U.S. nothing mechanical worked without oil back then. After china began to invade northern china. The U.S attempted to peacefully stop the conflict by stopping oil from being sent to japan (Which would cripple japan) to get them to stop. It had many causes, but there were two main issues that split the nation: first was the issue of slavery, and second was the balance of power in the federal government. The South was primarily an agrarian society. Throughout the South were large plantations that grew cotton, tobacco and other labor-intensive crops.
