Using strong verbs is something that takes practice, but can be simple if you think of the verbs as being the action, but also as giving a picture of what the subject is doing.

Verbs do not describe, that is the job of adjectives and adverbs, but verbs do help the reader "see" what is happening, especially when they are used well.

For example, the sentence "I went to the store." can be made much more descriptive by using strong, active verbs. Think about what the subject looks like DOING each of the different verbs:

I walked to the store.
I hopped to the store.
I strolled to the store.
I ran to the store.
I skipped to the store.

Simply changing the verb in each of these sentences shows a completely different action that helps the reader envision what the subject is doing.

How does your audience shape your writing?
OverLord2011 [107]
It's really important to know your audience when you start writing something. For example, if you want to write a dystopian novel, usually teens and young adults read such books, so you want to modify your novel and theme a bit to better suit their interest and understanding. You need to decide on which group of readers you want to write for so that you can adjust themes, motifs, characters, etc.

In the story "An Unlikely Heroine" by Elizabeth Kibler, Alisa also makes the happy outcome of the story possible by encouraging Teresa to stay on the team until the end of the season. Had Alisa not done that, Teresa would not have been able to step in to coach the team in the critical moment of the story.
