Question 2: most people in china are leaving villages and moving into cities. Name three reasons that this is happening? The mass emigration, which occurred from the 19th century to 1949, was mainly caused by corruption, starvation, and war in mainland China, and economic opportunities abroad such as the California gold rush in 1849.

Question 3: explain two postive outcomes of chinas economic growth and two negative of china economic growth? (Negative) Due to the rapid growth, China has suffered serious environmental and ecological destruction, the damage is significant. The negative impact of environmental issues on China's economy is predicted to cause eight percent drain on the GDP.

(positive) Economic growth means an increase in real GDP – an increase in the value of national output, income, and expenditure. Essentially the benefit of economic growth is higher living standards – higher real incomes and the ability to devote more resources to areas like health care and education.

Question 4: due to economic problems, china started to transition from a command economy to a mixed economy. Name two things china's government did to make this transition? The transition of the country's economic system from a command to a market-based economy helped fuel strong average growth. China's  trade and investment reforms as well as its incentives led to a surge in foreign direct investment (FDI), which has served as a major source of China's capital growth.

Why did immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe face harsher nativism than immigrants from northern and western Europe?
marysya [2.9K]
  1. Language. Nativists favored English-speaking Americans over Americans who could not speak English. For the largest part, the immigrants who could speak English came from the northwest of Europe (Ireland, Scotland, Scandinavia, etc.).
  2. Race. The wave of immigrants coming from Europe between the 1880s and the 1920s introduced more racial and cultural diversity, with many Americans considering southern Europeans as non-whites. Nativists rejected this ethnic intermingling.
  3. Job competition. After the First World War, the end of the war effort meant that manufacturing decreased and jobs were more difficult to come by. The wave of Southern and Eastern European immigrant workers at the time added up to the migration of African Americans to the industrial cities of the North of the U.S., and Americans ended up with a lot of competition for few jobs.
  4. The First Red Scare. After the war, many Americans viewed the immigrants from Italy, Spain and Russia as a threat, because they might bring to the U.S. their revolutionary ideas. The rulers of Spain and Italy had been assassinated at the turn of the 20th century, and the Bolsheviks led a revolution in Russia in 1917. The resulting fear of anarchism which spread in the native-born American population at the beginning of the 20th century is referred to as the First Red Scare.

Describe some of the illnesses that Africans faced on the Middle Passage journey.
Neko [114]
On the Voyage the Africans were being enslaved and they were all packed tightly together below the desk and were usually shackeld together. They all had seasickness, heat, and lack of hair which all contributated to a horriable smell. They were so close together that they could not go to the bathroom so they had to lay in their own filth. These conditions also encouraged disease. Many died from scurvy because they didn't have fruits or vegetables to eat. Not lots of slaves had known how to write so there were few accounts.

I hope this helps you:)
