When you subtract from bottom to top, you can’t subtract 9 from 8 so you would have to borrow the 1. That would then make it an 18-9 to get 9. Then since you borrowed the 1, you can’t subtract 4 from 0 so you would borrow 1 from the 9 and it then becomes an 8. After that you can just easily subtract the numbers.
