There is different forms of poems, for example: Some are rhyming, others aren't. Some make sense while others are just there to make people laugh.
A lyric poem often has a meaning and can so many different styles written within it, while a normal one has rules.

The modernized version of the story molds the tale into a more relatable and realistic situation.
I think it depends on who the writer/speaker is aiming their words towards; if it is a children's audience, I'm fairly positive that they won't use adult language, and vice versa for adults.
