HELP!!

The correct answer is D) Finding the baby bird on the ground, Maya returned it to its nest.

A modifier refers to a phrase or unit of a sentence that gives more information about, or describes something or someone. Options A, B, C do not use modifiers correctly, because the modifiers are misplaced. This means that it is difficult to tell what the modifier is referring to. For instance, in Option B: "Gazing up in wonder, the mountains looked enormous" it is unclear who is "gazing up in wonder". Option D is correct because it is clear that Maya is the one who found a baby bird on the ground.

AMERICAN LIT ( THE OVERCOAT) PLEASE HELP
sp2606 [1]

The description "....is customary amongst well-bred officials." is important for the passage because It magnifies the isolation and humiliation that characterize Akakiy’s situation.

Nikolai Gogol, the writer of " The Overcoat", in this description shows the way in which the main character, Akakiy, is treated by his co-workers. The writer ,ironically, refers to Akakiy's co-workers as well-bred officials. In Russia , a bureaucratic society, each state official was expected to be educated and learned - well-bred-, however these manners were not the manners they used when addressing Akakiy. He was humiliated by his co-workers because they laughed at him all the time.
