Seven ways high school prepared for failure

English

Answer:

If I'm correct, I think that you're asking how it has inevitably set students up for failure. While I don't think they've deliberately done this, there are some areas in which they need to improve.

1. Contributing to herd mentality.

2. Ignoring and choosing not to nurture the potential and learning habits of introverts (watch the TED talk by Susan Cain for a further explanation.)

3. Set us up to work and live under a preexisting corporate hierarchy. (Which is not always a bad thing)

4. Not paying enough attention to social issues regarding their students.

5. A division between the "gifted" and "ordinary students may cause the "ordinary" students to feel unworthy or lesser than their peers.

6. Not catering to different students' unique learning styles, and instead choosing to teach off of a curriculum not suitable to many students.

7. Teachers do not spend as much time as they should on the individual student, which is a result of overcrowding.

Read the excerpt from Montaigne's "To the Reader" and answer the question. Had my intention been to seek the world's favour, I should surely have adorned myself with borrowed beauties: I desire therein to be viewed as I appear in mine own genuine, simple, and ordinary manner, without study and artifice: for it is myself I paint. The metaphor implied in these lines suggests to readers that they will find Montaigne's writing style unadorned. To be "genuine, simple and ordinary manners" suggests an unadorned writing style reflectling his own modest behaviour.

Analyze Baldwin's use of metaphor in this excerpt. How does this rhetorical device
lesya692 [45]

Explanation:

Baldwin talks of a "disease" which afflicts black Americans and can wreck race relations and creating a "rage in the blood" so he is using the "disease" as a metaphor for probably the rage that black Americans have for experiencing the inequalities of life in the US especially in the 1960's when the civil rights movement was so strong and segregation was so strongly practiced in the South still.
