A) 3 2/3 - 1 5/12 we’ll convert to 12ths by multiplying the numerator and denominator of the first mixed number by 4.
3 8/12 - 1 5/12 = 2 3/12 = 2 1/4

b) 3 3/10 - 1 4/5 we’ll convert to 10ths by multiplying the numerator and denominator of the second mixed number by two.

3 3/10 - 1 8/10
Now we need to borrow from the three wholes to create more tenths
2 13/10 - 1 8/10 = 1 5/10 = 1 1/2

Or you can convert the first one to 33/10, and the second one to 9/5, which becomes 18/10.
33/10 - 18/10 = 15/10 = 1 1/2
Do whichever one makes more sense to your brain.

c) 4 5/9 - 3 1/2 we will convert both to 18ths.
4 10/18 - 3 9/18 = 1 1/18

d) 7 5/6 - 2 1/4 we will convert both to 12ths.
7 10/12 - 2 3/12 = 5 7/12

Answer:

(a)2 1/4

(b)1 1/2

(c)1 1/18

(d)5 7/12

Step-by-step explanation:

(a) 11/3 - 17/12 = 44/12 - 17/12 = 27/12 = 9/4 = 2 1/4

(b) 33/10 - 18/10 = 15/10 = 3/2 = 1 1/2

(c) 41/9 - 7/2 = 82/18 - 63/18 = 19/18 = 1 1/18

(d) 47/6 - 9/4 = 94/12 - 27/12 = 67/12 = 5 7/12

Hope it helped :)
