The Seventh Inning Stretch Company has created a new baseball that will improve your chances of hitting a home run. The 36-inch

bat is only available online. To protect the bat, it must be shipped so the handle of the bat is in one corner of the box and the top portion of the bat touches the opposite diagonal corner.The shipping box has a length of 30 inches and a height of 6 inches. How wide should the box be to fit the 36-inch bat? Show and explain your work.

Answer:

Width of the box = 18.97 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

Length of the bat = 36 inches.

That means length of the diagonal of the bat (BC) = 36 inches

By applying Pythagoras theorem in right triangle BDC,

BC² = BD² + CD²

BC² = (30)² + w² -------(1)

BY applying Pythagoras theorem in right triangle ABC,

AC² = AB² + BC²

(36)² = 6² + BC²

By substituting the value of BC from equation (1),

(36)² = 6² + (30)² + w²

1296 = 36 + 900 + w²

w² = 1296 - 936

w = √360

w = 18.97 inches

The area of a sector of a circle is given by the formula below. What is the solution for S?
olasank [31]
So we have the formula for the area of a sector of a circle: A= \pi r^2( \frac{s}{360} )
where
A is the <span>area of the sector
</span>s is the central angle
<span>
To solve for </span>s, we are going to divide both sides of the equation by \pi r^2, and then we are going to multiply both sides of the equation by 360°:
A= \pi r^2( \frac{s}{360} )
\frac{A}{\pi r^2} = \frac{ \pi r^2( \frac{s}{360} )}{\pi r^2}
\frac{s}{360}= \frac{A}{\pi r^2}
\frac{s}{360}(360)= \frac{A}{\pi r^2} (360)
s= \frac{360A}{\pi r^2}

We can conclude that the solution for s is: s= \frac{360A}{\pi r^2}

Skyler goes to a school which has 1000 students in it.
Dmitry [639]

Answer:

it's estimated that 750 students in the whole school dislike the 8:30am start time.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since 30 of the 40 students said "no", it means 30/40, or 3/4 of the random sample disliked the 8:30am start time. Multiply this by the whole population: 1,000 × (3/4) = 750.

Another way to check this is using 10/40 = .25 and doing 1000x.25 = 250 (the amount of students who liked it). Then subtract from whole population and it's 750.
