The election was important because both the candidates were both members of the Democrat-Republican party. Both received 73 electoral votes. This caused it to be sent to the house of representatives. Alexander Hamilton has a rivalry with Aaron Burr (one of the candidates). This is important because Alexander did everything he could to ensure Burr wasn't going to be president.
