Nomads are people who move from place to place without a permanent home, typically following a food source and their move was according to the season. The Mongols were nomads who came from the steppes northwest of China. A steppe is a vast area of dry, low grasslands. People who lived in steppes had a difficult time surviving due to the harsh climate. A khan is a Mongol ruler. Genghis Khan, a ruler who came into reign in 1206, had a name meaning, "ruler of the universe." Genghis united the Mongols and focused a great amount of attention on foreign conquest. By 1215, Genghis Khan had conquered the Jin kingdom which ruled in northern China. Soon after, Russia and Central Asia were conquered.

How does John jay expose the hyporcritical nature of slavery in his 1786 quote?
spayn [35]

We perceive that a great breach has been made in the moral and physical systems by the introduction of moral and physical evil; how or why, we know not; so, however, it is, and it certainly seems proper that this breach should be closed and order restored.

That men should pray and fight for their own freedom, and yet keep others in slavery, is certainly acting a very inconsistent, as well as unjust and, perhaps, impious part.

It is much to be wished that slavery may be abolished. The honour of the States, as well as justice and humanity, in my opinion, loudly call upon them to emancipate these unhappy people. To contend for our own liberty, and to deny that blessing to others, involves an inconsistency not to be excused.
