Excalibur has a very strong and diverse meaning and can be interpreted in many different ways. One of the most common ways is to assume that excalibur represents leadership. That's because she allowed Arthur to become England's rightful sovereign, becoming a great leader, a king.

Nevertheless, the excalibur symbolizes power, courage, honor and respect because that is what Arthur achieved by having it.

The delivery of the escalibur, as Arthur delivered it to Bedivere, means the acceptance of death, for Arthur knew that he would not need any of these factors in the place where his soul would go and it was time for other people to take possession of the escalibur.
