One of the obligations of the federal government to the states is to ensure a republican form of government

The Supreme Court established the rule in Luther v. Borden 1 that disputes arising under this provision are political, not judicial, in nature and that "it lies with Congress to determine whether the government is the established one in a State... as well as its republican character."

In Texas v. White 3, it was decided that the President's decision to establish temporary governments after the war was justified, if at all, only as an exercise of his authority as Commander-in-Chief and that these governments were only to be regarded as temporary ones to carry out governmental duties while Congress considered its options.

What were the central features of the "middle colonies"? Explain how they differed from New England and the southern colonies.
Pavel [41]

Answer:

The middle colonies, were different from the New England and southern colonies. These colonies are also known as, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Deleware, which contained river systems and parts. Their 3 rivers are the Hudson, Deleware, and the Susquehanna. The New England colonies contained Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. They had harsh soil, which led to subsistence farms, fishing (including whaling), and shipbuilding/small-scale factories were introduced. In the Southern colonies (Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, and Georgia), plantation systems developed. Farms were scattered, as well as slave labor, and export of cash crops.

mixas84 [53]
"To accommodate for lack of dependable rainfall" would be the best option as to why the ancient Chinese organized large groups of people to build and maintain irrigation systems, since when rainfall would not come for long periods of time, the crops would likely die without proper irrigation.
