The main difference between 1 and 3 are that number 3 uses quotations to mark off the direct phrases from the passage. Although it does include important supporting details, it misses one of the key ideas, that of eating communal meals. Also, in shorter passages like this, the reference at the end demonstrates that a writer is using ideas from another person and the rest of number one is sufficiently paraphrased to avoid using quotations.
