I am better at substitution, but you want to get the equations as similar as possible, but are the opposite, so you can cancel it out.

a tank can hold up to 500 gallons of water.A gauge reading shows that it is at 80% of its capacity. How many more gallons can it
Paha777 [63]
So we start out by finding out what 80% of 500 is by,

500 * .80 = 400

So if 80% is 400 that means that there is still space available for 100 more gallons!

How the heck did we know that?!?

simple 500- 400= 100

So that leaves us knowing that there are 100 gallons left that can be held!! :)

                            So your answer is 100 gallons!!

I hope that this helped!

OLga [1]

Answer:

3) \frac{(25)^{3/2} * (243)^{3/5}}{(16)^{5/4}*(8)^{4/3}}

=> \frac{(5^2)^{3/2}*(3^5)^{3/5}}{(2^4)^{5/4}*(2^3)^{4/3}}

=> \frac{5^3*5^3}{2^5*2^4}

=> \frac{5^6}{2^9}

4) \frac{3-2\sqrt{2} }{3+2\sqrt{2} }

Multiplying and dividing by conjugate 3-2\sqrt{2}

=> \frac{(3-2\sqrt{2})(3-2\sqrt{2}) }{(3+2\sqrt{2})(3-2\sqrt{2})}

=> \frac{9-6\sqrt{2}-6\sqrt{2} +8 }{9-8}

=> \frac{17-12\sqrt{2} }{1}

=> 17-12\sqrt{2}

Comparing it with a+b\sqrt{2}, we get

a = 17, b = -12
