Qs 9-14. Article “ An empire held together with string” and “ The Rise and fall of the incas”
ehidna [41]

9. The correct answer is B. According to the text The Rise and Fall of the Incas "<em>the name "Inca" was originally that of the tribe's ruling group of families</em>".

10. The correct answer is A. Both articles refer to how the European culture was introduced by force, and how Incas customs and traditions were not considered.

11. The Spanish were suprised that the Incas had no alphabet or set of numbers, considering how advanced their civilization was. The Empire had a network of paved roads, canals, and activities regulated by an efficient administrative system, all of which is not possible without the use of language and numbers, needed to keep documentation and to give instructions to those involved in construction, and regulation of social activities.

12. The correct answer is A.  The use of the word "subjugated" suggests that even if the Spanish invaders were only about 170 men, they managed to subdue the Incas.

13. The effects of the Spanish conquest on the Inca Empire were dramatic. The conquerors introduced reading, writing and their laws and religions to the Incas, making them adopt these to the detriment of their own. Also, the fact that the Incas were not immune to the illnesses the Europeans carried with them, meant that a lot of Incas suffered and died.

14. The correct answer is B. Both articles mention the year of the Spanish conquest, 1532.

After the Chernobyl accident, the soviet government secured the reactor by doing what?
Serhud [2]
The answer your looking for is they placed the sarcophagus over the reactor. It was a metal sarcophagus that was supposed to block radiation from leaking out of the reactor.

However, there was also other programs that occurred to secure the reactor/area to prevent further issues:

1. They sent liquidators to the area to lower radiation in the area (by unfortunately killing animals, putting contaminated items in certain spots, throwing graphite from the reactor on the roof back into it and more).

2. They evacuated the area (though arguably too late) and got most citizens out to prevent them from dying.

3. They sent minters to dig under the reactor and create a heat exchange, as to prevent the molten core from contaminating ground water.

4. They send a three-man team to release water valves in the reactor and prevent a steam explosion, which would’ve launched even more radiation into the environment.

Hope this helps!

Why did guilds want to influence the city government?
DerKrebs [107]

Guilds performed a variety of important functions in the local economy. They established a monopoly of trade in their locality or within a particular branch of industry or commerce; they set and maintained standards for the quality of goods and the integrity of trading practices in that industry; they worked to maintain stable prices for their goods and commodities; and they sought to control town or city governments in order to further the interests of the guild members and achieve their economic objectives.
