Pilsen is an old community in Chicago with a long history. This part of Chicago started small and got bigger, as most neighborho

ods in the city did. Its cultural history is about moving, changing, and connecting. Many people have moved there over the decades. This movement started when immigrants chose to settle in this part of the city when Chicago was growing rapidly. An immigrant is a person who moves from one country to another. Pilsen’s first people spoke German. They had moved from Germany. If you go to Pilsen today you will see some of the places they built. But when they first moved there, it had just a few homes. Then immigrants continued to migrate there; newcomers moved to Pilsen so they could be near people who came from the same country

charle [14.2K]

In this excerpt there is an opposition of two different points of view expressed in two words: <em>optimistic</em> and <em>doubtful</em>. Based on the antonym context clue, the reader can infer the meaning by contrasting these two words.

Thanks to this analysis, we may say that the word optimistic means hopeful, in opposition to <em>doubtful </em>or uncertain.

Usimov [2.4K]

This question refers to the text The Flight from Conversation by Sherry Turkle .

Answer:

With this phrase Turkle means that because of technology, we are all alone since every time we share less with people in a physical way and we do it more in a virtual way. But since it's something we all do, she says we're in this together. That's why she uses the phrase <em>"alone together."</em>

Explanation:

These words have a great influence on what the whole article is, since she wants to emphasize that really the vast majority of people are in this situation.

People just want to pay attention to what interests them, ignoring everything that doesn't.

This means that we all get more and more into technology and ignore the people around us, just to communicate virtually.

We are alone, but together at the same time because we remain connected even though we are immersed in technology.
