Major depressive disorder, or commonly known as depression, is a mental disorder that causes an individual to feel sad, lonely, and loss of interest in daily activities. If the symptoms of depression are present for at least 2 weeks, then it can be diagnosed as major depressive disorder. The person who has major depressive disorder must seek professional help, such as going to a psychologist or psychiatrist.

Sadness

Sadness is the most common symptom of depression. Sadness often followed by the feeling of emptiness and hopelessness. They will feel that their condition will never get any better than now and the sadness will linger forever.  

 Worthlessness

There are feelings of worthlessness and guilt. These feelings come up because of past failures and bad experiences before. A person who experienced worthlessness will blame themselves because their life is not what they wanted to be.  

 Irritability

A person with depression can get frustated very easily. They can get angry over an insignificant matter. Irritability is different between women and men. Women can get angry and then tearful after, while men can appear more violent or aggressive.  

Crying spells

People with depression can find themselves crying for no apparent reason. They wouldn’t know why they are crying, but they just feel so sad that they need to pout it out by crying.

Fatigue

Depression makes people feel unenergetic and tired all the time. Even if they have nothing hard to do, daily task such as showering, eating, etc, can still make them feel tired. They are unmotivated to do anything because they constantly feel tired.
