A new president can do a number of things to alter agreements made between the United States and foreign countries. The president can work with the original party to renegotiate better terms for the treaty. Once renegotiated and agreed to by both parties, the president would have to present the new, revised treaty to Congress. The renegotiation of a treaty agreement requires approval of the U.S. Congress.
