What is the approximate value of b, rounded to the nearest tenth?
ozzi

we know that

m∠ZWY=m∠WXY --------> given problem

so

In the right triangle ZWY

tan\ ZWY=\frac{ZY}{YW}=\frac{5}{6}

In the right triangle XWY

tan\ WXY=\frac{WY}{XY}=\frac{6}{a}

\frac{6}{a} =\frac{5}{6} \\ \\5*a=6*6 \\ \\a=\frac{36}{5}=7.2\ units

<u>Find the value of b</u>

<u>Applying the Pythagorean Theorem</u>

In the right triangle XWY

b^{2}=6^{2}+a^{2} \\b^{2}=6^{2}+7.2^{2}\\b^{2}=87.84\\ b= 9.4\ units

therefore

<u>the answer is the option</u>

D) 9.4 units

Volume of cone: pi x r^2 x H/3
  3.14 x 2^2 x 10/3 = 41.87 cubic cm

 volume of ice cream:  4/3 x pi x R^3
   4/3 x 3.14 x 2^3 = 33.49 cubic cm

volume of cone is larger than volume of ice cream so no it will not overflow
