maria claims that any fraction located between 1/5 and 1/7 on a number line must have a denominator of 6. Enter a fraction that
Sedaia [141]

I want to make this clear, this is NOT MY ANSWER! Someone else has already answered this question on here I'm just pasting their answer here so you can get the full details on how it was solved.

We know that 1/5 > 1/6 > 1/7

If we change the numbers to decimals we can see what decimals we can use that are between the number 1/5 and 1/7 .

1/5=.20

1/7≈.14

We can use any number between these two decimals to create a fraction. Let us use .16

.20>.16>.14

Now we can change that number to a fraction.

.16=16/100 which reduced to 4/25

Let's verify:

1/5 > 4/25 > 1/7    find LCM

35/175 > 28/175 > 25/175

One fraction that is between 1/5 and 1/7 that does not have a denominator of 6 is 4/25.

Omar is on a diet to lose some weight. He is losing weight at a rate of 2 pounds per week. After 6 weeks, his weight is 204 poun
bekas [8.4K]
Our basis would be 204 pounds. His original weight, 6 week ago, must be

204 + 2(6) = 216 pounds

But, we have to find the number of weeks having known the present weight (204 pounds) and the target weight (189). The linear equation would be

Target \ weight = \ Present \ weight \ -2(number \ of \ weeks)

189 = 204 - 2(number of weeks)
Number of weeks = (204-189)/2
Number of weeks = 7.5

The total number of weeks would then be 6 weeks + 7.5 weeks. It would take Omar 13 and a half weeks since he started his diet to reach his target weight.

5. Cate earns $20 per hour at her job. She pays $1.50 in bus fare each way. How many hours must she work to end up with $117?
Elodia [21]

Cate earns $20 per hour, so we are looking for the number of hours: 20x

Cate pays $1.50 for the bus each way, implying that she rides the bus twice in a day: 3

Cate must end up with $117: 117

117 = 20x + 3

114 = 20x

x = 5.7 hours

Cate must work 5.7 hours to end up with $117.

Hope this helps!! :)
