Which features are associated with divergent boundaries?
sergiy2304 [10]

Features that are typical for the divergent plate boundaries are:

- <em>ocean ridges;</em>

Underwater mountain chains that are very long and are marking the border of the plates.

- <em>formation of new crust;</em>

Since the crust is very weakened and loose, the high temperature, pressure, and magma, are able to penetrate it and create new crust.

- <em>intense volcanic activity;</em>

The high amount of magma penetrating from the mantle layer is causing intense volcanic activity, thus the creating on new crust, and underwater mountain chains.

Examine why a system of managed retreat may not be a feasible option in some parts of the coast (6 marks)
Lelechka [254]

Answer:

When a government embarks on an intentional, purposeful, calculated relocation of people and buildings away from risks, this is usually referred to as a Managed retreat.

This is usually carried out due to the presence of hazardous conditions such as the prevalence of wildfire, flood, earthquakes, wildfire, or drought.

Managed retreat strategies are usually accompained by allowing the shoreline to retreat naturally. The disadvantage of this is that land is lost and soon there will be the need for another retreat each time costing the government a lot of resources.

A more feasible option (in some cases) would be to execute <em>"Hard Engineering"</em><em> </em>

This involves the construction man-made civil structures which try to control natural processes.

Cheers!
