The author made it so Squeaky and Gretchen fought and had a conflict with one another. One way that they hated each other was Gretchen often made fun of Squeaky. Squeaky also thought of Gretchen in a negative way because he thought that Gretchen sucked at running and was no good. At the end of the story, the author finally resolves the conflict between the two by having it so Squeaky finally realizes that Gretchen can actually run!
