1. Piggy insists that Jack and his savages return his glasses. Piggy, despite the chaos on the island, believes that the group should be reminded of the rules and how they can be rescued. This shows how rational and intelligent Piggy is.
2. Ralph wants the group to clean up before they visit Ralph and his group. They do this to show that they are civilized human beings.
3. Ralph becomes savage due to Jack’s actions. Piggy stops this by holding up the conch and asking the boys which style of leadership they prefer.
4. A boulder kills Piggy and shatters the conch shell. The boys respond in violence toward Jack and his group.
5. Jack attacks Ralph. Jack represents savagery.

The children had nothing to eat, and Rose Mary talked about imaginary meals and food that wasn't there..... Jeannette finally had the gumption to say, "I was hungry."
