The nurse provides information to the parent of a 2-week-old infant who was diagnosed with clubfoot at the time of birth. Which
olya-2409 [2.1K]

Answer:

The answer is: "I realize my infant will require follow-up care until fully grown."

Explanation:

Clubfoot- This is a common congenital birth defect. It is characterized by foot abnormalities in babies wherein their foot or feet are internally rotated at the ankle or looks out of position. This can be correctly easily and in most cases, it doesn't require any surgeries. It also depends on the severity of the condition.

One of the most common non-surgical ways is "casting" and "bracing." This is also known as the Ponseti method. This should be done shortly after birth (1-2 weeks). The bracing will be done once the foot is in correct position.

It is very important to treat the clubfoot condition at an early age. Later stage results to inability to walk due to a permanently deformed condition.

In the example statement above, the parent says his baby will require follow-up care until fully grown. This is not true and it needs further teaching to the parent about the disorder. As mentioned earlier, Clubfoot can be corrected easily, especially for infants who are 2 weeks old. Thus, once treated, it will not require follow-up care in the future.
