The Supreme Court’s jurisdiction includes what?
irinina [24]

The Supreme Court has original jurisdiction over some cases and appellate jurisdiction over all lower courts.

The Supreme Court has the ability to decide whether any law--whether a federal or state law--is constitutional or not.

In regard to appellate jurisdiction, the Supreme Court is asked to review more than 7,000 cases each year, of which it agrees to hear about 100 to 150 cases per year.  The vast majority of those cases work their way up to the Supreme Court from lower courts.  About two-thirds of the cases come from lower federal court decisions that are appealed for review, and about one-third of the cases are reviewing decisions made by supreme courts of individual states.

But there are some cases that can have original jurisdiction at the Supreme Court level -- such as when there is a case between one state government and another or between state governments and the federal government.

what was the major impact of the united states participation in the vietnam war on the american people
inna [77]

Answer:

Explanation:

You wouldn't have to ask the question if you lived in the United States during the Vietnam war. Nothing, no event since the civil war a century earlier, split the American people more than Vietnam.

Basically there were a number of things that it did.

1. Those fighting it were split about going over. Many college educated students would have enlisted immediately after Pearl Harbor in WWII. Those same class of people would not be persuaded that way during Vietnam

2. It gave rise to the civil rights movement. The colored didn't want to go to Vietnam, or not all of them. Those who were opposed, especially the colored, sympathized with organizations like the Black Panthers or the Peace movement headed by Martin Luther King.

3. It brought the war into American living rooms. I can still remember seeing the shooting of a Viet Cong prisoner. At the time, it was extremely graphic and if I may say so, very horrifying.

4. The white middle class was equally upset by Vietnam. There were rallies on the University campuses where the numbers were in the tens of thousands. My mother 79 at the time, insisted on going to one. She was not disappointed. The keynote speaker was Jane Fonda. The body count was just too high not to upset just about everyone.

5. Then there was Kent State. You would do well to look that up.

According to the pie chart, which function consumed the largest portion of government expenditures in 2003?
kap26 [50]

Yes. thank you. That is much clearer. The largest expenditure was social security, but it's not isolated. Medicare and Medicaid are set up to go hand in hand with social security so you are really talking about 3 tines on the same fork. There are choices with this question and they should be listed. In a previous question that I answered, the example that turned out to be true (or I thought was true) was senior citizens drawing a pension from social security.

That is no trivial amount of money. My stats tell me that (judging by the friends we have in the United States) the average pension is about 1000 a month. That adds up to a lot money being paid out to a lot of people. Added to that, we are living much longer than expected and our health care costs are rising as we get older. Just ask me about that and be prepared to hear about the golden years which are sometimes not so golden.

The problem is that these payments are called entitlements and they are ruinously expensive. But it is not the fault of senior citizens. They have paid into social security their entire working life and they have paid into Medicare and Medicaid as well, and it is only fair that they be able to draw out what they have paid in. They cannot help that governments have mismanaged the funds that they have paid in. [It's true here in Canada where I live as well].
