it sounds very confusing. it would sound better if you wrote it like this:
As a scientist, working on a device that could hear everyone's thoughts was difficult and stressful for me. When my friend Jimmy came into the lab I could immediately hear what he was thinking. "He's such an idiot!" apon hearing I quickly and quietly left before he saw me. I didn't want be around him if this was how he truly felt, so I decided to go home. Traffic was a nightmare because not only was I stuck there for an hour everyone's thoughts were consuming my ears and mind. It was so loud. once I got home I used my emergency cancelation system that allows me to control machines in the lab and turned it off. immediately my mind became quiet and peaceful. never again will I want to listen to people's thoughts
