Mrs. Mallard thinks her life after her husband’s death is a brand new start and she is excited for it. The entire time she was with her husband, she felt as if he was bringing her down. She's feeling free as a women, and a single women who wont have to take orders from her husband anymore. Mrs. Mallard's friends are calling it "the joy that kills”. After the death of her husband, she vowed to herself that she will never live for other people ever again. She lives for herself and only herself now, because in the past she would only focus on the one she was married to.
