The most unfortunate legacy left in Bolivia and many other Latin American countries was the class disparity based on ethnic differences. The Spanish didn't have African slaves, but the natives were treated as slaves. The more "pure" Spanish blood that one had the "better and superior" they were seen to be. In some places, this class system would lead to violent revolts as the more numerous "criollos", people having both Spanish and Native blood, sought to overthrow the "peninsulares", people of only Spanish decent.
