The Cold War affected the United States in various ways. One example of how it affected it is in the politics at home. The Cold War caused a lot of distrust between the United States and the Soviet Union. This was due to the fact that the communist belief in the Soviet Union was believed to be a dangerous plague that was quickly spreading. Apart from politics, there were also covert operations abroad. One example of this is the Bay of Pigs invasion when the Cuban exiles landed in Cuba and many Soviet Union missiles were spotted in Cuba. Lastly, there were also new alliances like NATO and the UN. These alliances helped countries prevent a third world war by protecting each other and helping each other.
