Eclipse Motor Company manufactures two types of specialty electric motors, a commercial motor and a residential motor, through t

wo production departments, Assembly and Testing. Presently, the company uses a single plantwide factory overhead rate for allocating factory overhead to the two products. However, management is considering using the multiple production department factory overhead rate method. The following factory overhead was budgeted for Eclipse:
Assembly Department $280,000
Testing Department 800,000
Total $1,080,000

Direct machine hours were estimated as follows:

Assembly Department 4,000 hours
Testing Department 5,000
Total 9,000 hours

In addition, the direct machine hours (dmh) used to produce a unit of each product in each department were determined from engineering records, as follows:

Commercial Residential
Assembly Department 1.5 dmh 1.0 dmh
Testing Department 3.0 2.0
Total machine hours per unit 4.5 dmh 3.0 dmh

Required:
a. Determine the per-unit factory overhead allocated to the commercial and residential motors under the single plantwide factory overhead rate method, using direct machine hours as the allocation base.
b. Determine the per-unit factory overhead allocated to the commercial and residential motors under the multiple production department factory overhead rate method, using direct machine hours as the allocation base for each department.

Answer:

A. Commercial 540

Residential 360

B. Commercial 585

Residential 390

Explanation:

a) Calculation to Determine the per-unit factory overhead allocated to the commercial and residential motors .

First step is to calculate the Plantwide overhead rate using this formula

Plantwide overhead rate =Estimated overhead /Esimated machine hours

Let plug in the formula

Plantwide overhead rate = 1080000/9000

Plantwide overhead rate = $ 120 per MH

Now let Determine the per-unit factory overhead allocated to the commercial and residential motors

Using this formula

Per -unit factory overhead allocated=Actual MH per unit *Plantwide overhead rate

Let plug in the formula

Per -unit factory overhead allocated to COMMERCIAL=4.5 dmh*120

Per -unit factory overhead allocated to COMMERCIAL=540

Per -unit factory overhead allocated to RESIDENTIAL=3.0 dmh*120

Per -unit factory overhead allocated to RESIDENTIAL=360

Therefore the per-unit factory overhead allocated to the commercial and residential motors under the single plantwide factory overhead rate method will be:

Commercial 540

Residential 360

b. Calculation to Determine the per-unit factory overhead allocated to the commercial and residential motors

First step is to calculate the Departmental overhead rate

ASSEMBLY TESTING

Estimated overhead 280,000 800,000

÷Estimated machine hours each department 4,000 5,000

=Departmental overhead rate 70 160

Now calculation the per-unit factory overhead allocated to the commercial and residential motors

COMMERCIAL RESIDENTIAL

Assembly 1.5 dmh*70=105 1.0 dmh*70=70

Testing 3.0*160= 480 2.0*160= 320

Per -unit factory overhead allocated 585 390

(105+480=585)

(70+320=390)

Therefore the per-unit factory overhead allocated to the commercial and residential motors under the multiple production department factory overhead rate method will be:

Commercial 585

Residential 390

If the direction in managerial work today is away from command and control, what is it toward?(a) Coaching and facilitating (b)
vagabundo [1.1K]

Answer:

(a) Coaching and facilitation

Explanation:

Coaching refers to polishing the skills of the employees by imparting knowledge and adequate training so that they are able to contribute efficiently as well as perform to their potential.

Facilitation refers to easing out the processes or making complex tasks easier. Facilitation refers to the act of simplifying a task.

Command and control tend to be imperative, domineering and authoritative.  Those two terms also point towards rigidity and inflexibility.

Thus, shift in managerial work from command and control has been towards (a) Coaching and facilitation.

Consider the following data for a closed economy:
notsponge [240]

Answer: The answer is given below

Explanation:

a. . Private saving

Private saving=Y+TR-C-T

= $11t + $1t - $8t - $3t

= $12 trillion - $11 trillion

= $1 trillion

b. Public saving

Public Saving= T-G-TR

Since G is not given, we can use:

I = public saving + private saving

$2t = public savings + $1t

Public saving= $2 trillion - $1 trillion

Public savings = $1 trillion

c. Goverment purchases

Since public savings = T - G - TR

$1t = $3t - G - $1t

G = $3t - $1t - $1t

G = $3 trillion - $2 trillion

G = $1 trillion

d. The goverment budget deficit or budget surplus.

There is a budget surplus of $1 trillion which has been calculated in the public savings.

The market risk premium is defined as __________. the difference between the return on an index fund and the return on Treasury
Paha777 [63]

Answer:

The difference between the return on an index fund and the return on Treasury bills

Explanation:

The market risk premium explains critically the difference between an expected return on a given market portfolio and the risk-free rate.

It is also the additional return a given investor will receive (or is expected to gain) from holding a risky market portfolio instead of risk-free assets.

Indicate whether the situations involve economic discrimination. Sharna lives on a planet where unobtanium is mined by an interp
Softa [21]

Answer:

Yes, in the question there are is a clear example of economic discrimination.

Explanation:

The fact that Sharna does not purchase Earth prodcuts is not economic discrimination because each consumer is free to decide what to purchase.

However, Sharna is not only a consumer, but also a producer, and one that is a monopoly, and using the power of her monopolistic position to refuse to sell to Earthlings, or loan less to Earthlings, not because of legitimate economic justifications or concerns, but because she dislikes Earthling poetry, is a clear example of economic discrimination that would be struck down in an Earthling court.

Doss [256]

Answer:

Niche competitive advantage

Explanation:

A niche competitive advantage is gained when a business targets a small segment of the market and effectively serves them.

Forming a niche market leads to less competition as the business is specialised in this field, there is clear focus as a small targeted customer base is to be satisfied, and results in specialised skills or market expertise.

Yuengling only sold in a ten-state area on the Eastern Seaboard for over 170 years, giving them a niche competitive advantage.
