I wanted to be heroic. At least I wanted to believe I was. To be honest, I’ve always been good at pretending. Pretending not lying. I spent the first 13 years of my life pretending I was someone else and that I wasn’t in the situation I was in. I pretended I had a nice house, money, food. How I longed for anyone else’s life.
