An independent clause is a clause or a part of a sentence that can also be another sentence on its own. It has its own subject and predicate.
Of all the sentences given, letter B has an independent clause. Why is that?
In letter B, the sentence "Alan wants to visit his friends before he returns to college." can be broken down into two sentences.
1. Alan wants to visit his friends.
2. He returns to college.
In this case, we have 2 independent clause in one sentence which is why letter B is the answer.
Answer: To provide reasons why he decided to speed up the nation's efforts to be first in space.

Now that Jonas can ask questions, he realizes how overwhelming it can be for one person to receive so much information.
Explanation:
Jonas discovers all the truths about human behavior. Being able to ask questions and now have access to the memories, he is overwhelmed by all these new feelings.
Some are pleasant, but others not so much. And this helps him understand why everyone else in the community is not allowed to ask questions.
Each of these memories completely overwhelms Jonas who does not understand very well what he is seeing, since it is something new to him.
Let's look at the following quote:

An infinitive is the word "to" plus a verb so if you see that in a sentence its probably an.infinitive (I'll give an example below)
Ex: Renee suprised her sister to scare her.
-The infinitive would be "to scare" because it could be mistaken as a verb but the actual verb is "surprised"
