1. The word "Ixim" is a common word of the Mayan Qʼeqchiʼ language which means Corn.

2. Rigoberta Menchú  is a political and human rights activist from Guatemala. She belongs to the indigenous community K'iche´. 4. The Quetzal is the name of Guatemalan currency, named after its national bird. The origin of the name can be traced to the ancient Mayan culture, that used the tail feathers of the Quetzal as currency. It was introduced in 1925, and replaced the Peso.

5. The Mayans were architects of great cities. Probably the most common and easily recognizable Mayan buildings are the stepped Pyramids, built with carved stone to create a stairway design. In mathematics, they invented the number zero 1700 years before Europeans received the concept from Arabian mathematicians. Mayans also knew to make elastic materials, by developing the vulcanization process 3000 years before Charles Goodyear did it for automobile tires.Mayans made elastic from latex and mixed it with other plant substances.
