NAWSA was organized on February 18, 1980. Their purpose is to work for women’s suffrage in United States the woman of New Orleans were hesitant to join the organization because the  Senate discarded the planned women's suffrage amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1887. They felt that this rejection was a way to discriminate women and they  lost hope towards their right to suffrage.
