Hurricanes can hit the area and for example New Orleans is mostly below sea level, this caused a major disaster in the area of which they are still feeling the economic impact of not being prepared for such a major catastrophe .
Effects such as the Smoot-Hawley tariff act raised tariffs to and all time high but was actually meant to help but ultimately failed, causing a sped up process towards the Depression.
