I believe this is false. Unlike in Greece, Romans found more value in sentiment in imperfection, and emphasized realism more than they did idealism or perfection. :) good luck!!
Try using a beauty light, if that doesn't work, then try and change the angle of where your standing. Get different shots and pick out the ones that have a softer natural light.
