Read this excerpt from a leaflet that the United States circulated in Japan in 1945. Then answer the question that follows. The

Soviet Union, because of this rejection on the part of the military, has notified your Ambassador Sato that it has declared war on your nation. Thus, all powerful countries of the world are now at war with you. Also, because of your leaders' refusal to accept the surrender declaration that would enable Japan to honorably end this useless war, we have employed our atomic bomb. A single one of our newly developed atomic bombs is actually the equivalent in explosive power to what 2000 of our giant B-29s could have carried on a single mission. Radio Tokyo has told you that with the first use of this weapon of total destruction, Hiroshima was virtually destroyed. Before we use this bomb again and again to destroy every resource of the military by which they are prolonging this useless war, petition the emperor now to end the war. Our president has outlined for you the thirteen consequences of an honorable surrender. We urge that you accept these consequences and begin the work of building a new, better, and peace-loving Japan. Based on the excerpt, which sentence best summarizes the Allies reason for using the atomic bomb on Japan?

The correct answer here would be:

Also, because of your leaders' refusal to accept the surrender declaration that would enable Japan to honorably end this useless war, we have employed our atomic bomb.

At this point in time the war has extracted a great toll not only on the Allied forces but on all the sides of the war. The emperor refusal of surrender prolonged already bloody conflict. So in order to bring a swifter end to the World War II the US deployed the atomic bomb.

How do the length of the lines, the stanzas, and the poem as a whole affect the meaning of we real cool a.The length of these el
ELEN [110]

Answer: d.The length of these elements reflects and stresses the importance of the speakers' actions.

Explanation:

The poem We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks speaks of the actions of a what we can assume are a group of teenagers. They skip school, they play pool, they stay out late and they drink strong liquor and so they think they are cool but know they will die soon.

We learn all these from very short lines and stanzas which were done that way to stress the importance of the actions of the teenagers. Gwendolyn Brooks did not want the actions of the speaker to be lost in a lot of words but instead wanted the actions of the speaker to be well pronounced such that the reader understands the impact that the actions of the speaker could have on them.
