Did I do it right??? Please respond.
Sedaia [141]

Fraid not.  This time, you did it left.

The tool to use is "Vertical" angles are equal. (They don't add up to 180 degrees.)

3y + 120 = 5y + 100

(you should fill in the missing steps)

y = 10°

The upper/lower pair of vertical angles are both 150°.

.

2x = 6x - 60

(you should fill in the missing steps)

x = 15°

The left/right pair of vertical angles are both 30°.

It's any two angles NEXT TO each other that add up to 180°.

Notice here that (150° + 30°) = 180° .

Derive the equation of the parabola with a focus at (6,2) and a directrix of y=1
nydimaria [60]
Distance from focus to vertex=distance from vertex to directix

from (6,2) to y=1, the distance is 1
the focus is 1/2 higher than the vertex
vertex=(6,1.5)

for
(x-h)^2=4p(y-k)
vertex=(h,k)
p=distance from vertex to directix

vertex=(6,1.5)
ditance=0.5

(x-6)^2=4(0.5)(y-1.5)
(x-6)^2=2(y-1.5) is the equation
or
y=0.5x^2-6x+19.5 or
y=0.5(x-6)^2+1.5

Answer: Choice A

Raising something to the 1/4th power is the same as applying the 4th root to that expression. Raising an expression to the 1/n power is the same as applying the nth root.

Rule:
x^{1/n} = \sqrt[n]{x}
(if the text is too small it basically says x to the (1/n) = square root with a small 'n' all over x)
