Dangling modifiers happen when it is not clear who is actually doing the action. An example would be, After studying hard for the exam, the exam had arrived. In this sentence it is not clear who studied for the exam. Another example would be: Before leaving for school, the trash need to be emptied. Who is leaving for school? </span>
